Bangkok is a budget travelers dream come true. Not only is it a paradise destination on the cheap it is also one of the few places in Southeast Asia where you can snag a quality budget hotel room right in the heart of the city - that is close to mass transportation, shopping and nightlife entertainment.
Just on the city outskirts, though not far from the city center is Bhimann Inn - located just a 5 minute walk north of the famed backpackers headquarter called Khao San road. But Bhimann Inn is built for guests not looking for a backpackers lifestyle. This well designed Arab themed hotel with its Moroccan facade is geared towards guest comfort by offering excellent quality rooms with a swimming pool thrown in. Room rates at the Bhimann Inn start at a paltry sum of 1000 Baht per night, which is really affordable.
If 1000 Baht is still a bit too steep then take a look at Rambuttri Village Hotel - located in the dreamy sleepy tree lined Soi Rambuttri. For 600 Baht per night you will get a small, yet clean room and on top of that the hotel also has a small swimming pool. Most will fall in love with this hotel's bohemian location that is filled with excellent local and foreign restaurants and tiny nooks with hidden shops to buy that must have souvenir.
Bhimann Inn and Rambuttri Village Hotel are located in the old district of Bangkok filled with historic buildings as well as some of the top must see tourist destinations such as the Grand Palace and Wat Pho temple. Both are also situated near the Chao Phraya River - where you can catch the express ferry to central Bangkok for less than 15 Baht.
Now if you want to be right in the heart of the city close to major shopping centers, posh restaurants and still want to stay in a budget hotel then consider the Sawasdee Langsuan Inn. Located amongst the most luxurious hotels in Bangkok the Sawasdee Langsuan's rooms start at 700 Baht per night. Rooms there are quite standard and slightly no frills but they are indeed comfortable. And with the Sky Train station nearby you are never too far off from major tourist attractions.
Final tip is while booking hotels in Thailand it is always good to check first with the hotel's website for reservation first. After that take a look at a hotel reservation agency - preferably one that is based in Thailand with an office in Bangkok. Hotel reservation agencies however are able to provide better room rates because they are able to reach more visitors with special discounts and promotional offers.
