Lesser-Known Hotel Classifications

Most people know hotels by name or identify them by how many stars are present on a particular hotel's rating. There are also a variety hotel types-hotels, hostels, motels, apartment hotels, bed & breakfasts, inns, et cetera. However, there are also other classifications for hotels that many people do not know.

Among the lesser-known ways that hotels are classified is by tagging them as either full service establishments or limited service establishments. As the name implies, full service hotels have a host of linked establishments within the hotel itself. This includes a comprehensive range of shops and services such as boutiques, restaurants, bookstores, gift shops, computer rental shops, cafes, drug stores, and whatever else.

Another asset of full service hotels is that they have big enough conference halls to hold events and big dinners, along with the necessary technical hardware required of such events. This way, conventions and big corporate meetings are ideally held at full service hotels.

Limited service properties, on the other hand, are basic establishments that offer little beyond room and board. There is going to be housekeeping and other related services like laundry, but the variety of shops and services just is not like the bigger full service counterparts.

Another lesser-known method of classifying hotels is based on a particular trait, characteristic, feature, or specialization that the establishment offers.

For example, there are so-called resort hotels, which offer a hotel in a resort setting-luxury in lush surroundings and great ambiance coupled with particular features like swimming pools or even golf courses. These resort hotels are commonly found in vacation hotspots all over the countryside. These are situated near mountains, beachfronts, and any other natural vacation Location.

There are also conference hotel, the namesake, banquets and derives from, suitable for meetings, business lunches. Some companies focused on providing full service of this type of service, can be classified as a full service conference hotel.

An example of another type called the hotel casino, Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. The emphasis is on the main attraction of the structure,world-class casino-while providing luxurious lodging for guests. Basically, these casino hotels are like normal 5-star hotels, except the main attraction is really the slot machines and card tables.

Another classification is extended-stay hotels. These hotels are fully equipped with the necessary amenities and features to support a long-term stay. These features include full kitchen equipment, extensive entertainment setups, along with a variety of other amenities.

In contrast, there are hotels that specialize in short-term stays. These include bed & breakfasts, RV parks, as well as guest houses. Guest houses in particular are smaller houses that are enclosed in the same area as a main property, and these smaller houses are intended to be rented out by travelers.

As you can see, there are many different classifications of hotels aside from just identifying them by their ratings. These are just some of them, and in this day and age of specialization, do not be surprised to see hotels evolve into branched classifications that would allow them to cater to the ever-changing needs of travelers all over the world.
